From Nipissing University to Oslo
By Olivia Shannon, Psychology
The shuttle left at 10am, meaning it was an early enough start in the morning, especially if last minute packing was necessary for some. We all met at the school's main entrance, took a few pictures, chatted, and once everyone arrived, we left for the Toronto Pearson Airport. The Northern Airport Service shuttle was very comfortable, and the drive seemed to go by really fast, especially after we took a quick break in Bracebridge.
The day as a whole seemed to pass by very quickly. Once we arrived, we checked in our bags, went through security, and found the location of our gate - each a process that can be quite chaotic, making it go by fast. After finding the gate and finding a place to eat, we only had an hour and a half until our flight boarded at 5:20pm.
The flight to Amsterdam was almost 7 hours, but also went by quickly! After alternating between watching movies and trying to sleep, we found ourselves already landing. Everyone really enjoyed dinner on the plane too.
We had a 3h layover before our connecting flight to Oslo. We were all starting to feel quite exhausted. By then, we had been travelling for 16 hours. Upon arriving in Oslo with a short 1.5 hour plane ride, we picked up our bags, and took the train into the city and walked to the hotel. This was the first time we were able to take in the Norwegian environment and culture, making it a very fun and engaging walk through town to the hotel (although our bags were so heavy that we were excited to just finally arrive).
We all got settled into our rooms, changed, and although we believed we would be too tired, we took a walk through town, visiting some of the stores and markets that Oslo has to offer. Most of us turned in at 7:00pm for the night due to some much needed sleep - by this time, we have been awake for 27 hours straight.
Very eager to see what tomorrow has in store!
